Annu Rani: Pioneering Indian Women’s Javelin Throw

Annu Rani, born on August 28, 1992, in Bahadurpur, Uttar Pradesh, has emerged as a trailblazer in Indian athletics, particularly in the women’s javelin throw. Known for her strength, precision, and determination, Annu has broken barriers and set new standards for Indian women in the sport.

Coming from a modest background, Annu’s journey into javelin throw began in an unconventional manner. It was her brother who first recognized her potential, after seeing her throw a wooden stick a remarkable distance. Encouraged by her family, despite societal norms that often discouraged women from pursuing sports, Annu began training seriously under the guidance of her coach.

Her breakthrough came in 2014 when she broke the national record with a throw of 58.83 meters at the National Inter-State Athletics Championships. This performance solidified her place as the top female javelin thrower in India.

She became the first Indian woman to qualify for the javelin throw finals at the World Championships in 2019, further establishing her as a force to be reckoned with on the global stage. Her national record of 63.24 meters, set in 2021, remains a testament to her hard work and dedication.
